How do I Backup My Contact List?


Choose Which version of ICQ you are using:
ICQ 99a
ICQ 98a


ICQ 99a:

To backup your contact list:

  1. Shut Down ICQ
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Locate the ICQ Folder (usually in C:\Program Files)
  4. Copy the Newdb folder to a different location
To restore your contact list (if it was backed up using ICQ 99):
  1. Shut Down ICQ
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Locate the backed up Newdb folder
  4. Copy the Newdb folder to the ICQ folder (by default in C:\Program Files)
  5. Restart ICQ
To restore your contact list (if it was backed up using ICQ 98):
  1. Shut Down ICQ
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Locate the backed up db folder
  4. Copy the db folder to the ICQ folder (by default in C:\Program Files)
    Note: Do NOT move the contents of the db folder to the NewDB folder
  5. Click on Start, go to Programs, ICQ and click on ICQ Database Convertor
  6. Choose "Convert Old Database"
  7. Follow the instructions (if necessary choose the appropriate owner) and restart ICQ

ICQ 98a:

To backup your contact list:

  1. Shut Down ICQ
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Locate the ICQ Folder (usually in C:\Program Files)
  4. Copy the db folder to a different location
To restore your contact list (only if it was backed up using ICQ 98a or earlier version):
  1. Shut Down ICQ
  2. Open Windows Explorer
  3. Locate the backed up db Folder
  4. Copy the db folder to the ICQ folder (by default in C:\Program Files)
  5. Restart ICQ
